Hey,
I'm Aira
Your Documentary Wedding Photographer · Storyteller · Observer of Life
My Story
I've always been a quiet observer of the world. I love reading books, watching movies, visiting museums, and sitting in coffee shops watching strangers walk by. I love listening to people tell their stories — the way their eyes light up, the way the corners of their mouth curl into a smile they didn't mean to show, the way their tears fall before they even realize it, the way their voice changes when they talk about someone they love. The world is not always perfect, but I love it in all its ordinary, unguarded moments.
That's why I became a documentary wedding photographer.
Not to create beautiful images. But to preserve real ones.
My story begins on my own wedding day.
It was a beautiful day in June 2016 in Hawaii. My husband and I got married on the beach where we had our first date. But my mom was in the ICU, battling cancer, while I stood before the love of my life and said my vows. It was the most bittersweet day of my life — full of joy, full of ache, full of a love I didn't know what to do with.
I wished more than anything for her presence — to hug her, to see her smile, to hear her laugh on the most significant day of my life. What I had instead was her face on a video call, lying in her hospital bed with her eyes closed. The photographer we hired didn't capture any of those moments. Only I asked a friend to take a photo of me in my wedding dress, holding up the phone screen showing my mom. That photo is the one I treasure more than any other from my wedding day.
My mom is no longer with us. But her warmth, her patience, her endless belief in the kindness of the world, her unconditional love and support — they walk with me and shape who I am today.
I often think about the smiles, the laughter, and the tears of joy she would have brought to that day. It's what inspired me to become a documentary wedding photographer — one who focuses on each couple's unique love story, on the real moments and genuine emotions that can so easily fade into the background of our busy lives. Because I know how devastating it is to lose a moment you can never get back.
What I Believe
Your wedding day is not a performance.
It's not a photoshoot. It's not a production. It's one of the most real days of your life — full of chaos, beauty, emotion, and the people you love most all gathered in one place.
True colors. Real feelings. No posing, no directing, no interruption.
Just your story, told honestly. Those are the moments I'm here for.
Outside the Camera
When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll find me at a museum losing track of time, curled up with a book, or watching my kids play and making sure I don't miss a single ridiculous, joyful, messy moment of it.
I photograph my own family constantly — not just the posed portraits, but the silly games, the big ugly cries, the laughter that comes out of nowhere. Because I know how fast time moves. I tell myself every single day: today is the best day of my life. Every moment is worth keeping.
That belief doesn't leave me when I pick up my camera at a Maryland wedding — or anywhere else in the world. If anything, it makes me more present. More grateful. More committed to making sure you have something to return to, decades from now, that takes your breath away.
